Counts update live as you type — no button to click. Sentences are counted by sentence-ending punctuation, skipping common abbreviations like "Mr." or "e.g." so they aren't miscounted as breaks. Paragraphs are counted by blank lines between blocks of text. Reading time uses your chosen words-per-minute pace; speaking time always uses a slower ~130wpm pace. Nothing is uploaded — this all happens on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does this send my text anywhere?

No — everything is counted locally in your browser as you type. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How is reading time calculated?

Word count divided by a words-per-minute pace (adjustable — defaults to 200wpm, a typical adult silent-reading speed). Speaking time uses a slower ~130wpm pace.

How are sentences and paragraphs counted?

Sentences are counted by sentence-ending punctuation (. ! ?), with common abbreviations like "Mr." or "e.g." not counted as a break. Paragraphs are counted by blank lines between blocks of text.

Is there a text length limit?

No hard limit — it handles anything from a tweet to a full manuscript, though very large pastes (100,000+ words) may take a brief moment to recount on each keystroke.

Does it count characters with or without spaces?

Both are shown separately, since character limits (social posts, meta descriptions, form fields) sometimes count one and sometimes the other.

Your files are never uploaded. Gotool.xyz runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your files are processed in memory and never touch a server — nothing to breach, nothing to clean up. Close the tab and it's like it never happened. The only thing we count is which tool ran (just the name, e.g. "merge") so we know what people find useful — never your file, its name, its size, or anything in it.
