How it works
- Upload a photo — it opens straight into the editor.
- Choose Extend canvas (add space around the photo) or Crop photo (trim it down) at the top.
- Pick a target shape (Square, Portrait, 3:2, Story, Landscape) or type an exact width and height.
- In Extend mode, choose how to fill the new space: a blurred zoom of your own photo, or a flat white/black/custom color. In Crop mode, drag the selection box and its corner handles, then double-click (or use Apply crop) to confirm.
- Download the result.
Frequently asked questions
Will this crop my photo?
Only if you choose to. Extend mode never crops or scales down your photo — it only adds canvas around it, filled with a blur or color. Crop mode is separate and does trim the photo, using a resizable selection box you position and confirm yourself before anything is cut.
How does the blurred fill work?
It's a scaled-up, blurred copy of your own photo stretched to cover the new canvas, with your sharp original placed on top at its real size — the same effect apps use when a photo doesn't fit a square post.
Can I use a color instead of blur?
Yes — white, black, or any custom color you pick, filled in flat behind your photo instead of a blur.
How does the crop selection work?
Pick a shape or exact size and a selection box appears on the photo. Drag inside it to reposition, drag a corner to resize, then double-click inside the box (or use the Apply crop button) to cut it to that size.
What file do I get back?
A PNG — at the new, larger canvas size in Extend mode, or at the selection's size in Crop mode.
Does this remove my actual background, like a portrait photo?
No — neither mode separates your subject from what's behind them automatically. For that, Image to GIF with Effects has a color-based background removal option.
Your files are never uploaded. Gotool.xyz runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your files are processed in memory and never touch a server — nothing to breach, nothing to clean up. Close the tab and it's like it never happened. The only thing we count is which tool ran (just the name, e.g. "merge") so we know what people find useful — never your file, its name, its size, or anything in it.
