- Review the extracted text once recognition finishes.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
Good for clear, reasonably high-resolution text — printed pages, clean screenshots, well-lit signs. Handwriting, blurry photos, and low-contrast text will produce more mistakes; that's a limit of OCR technology generally, not something specific to this tool.
What languages does it support?
English out of the box. The underlying engine (Tesseract) supports over 100 languages — if you need one added, use the Contact Us page.
Why did it say 'downloading' the first time?
Real OCR needs a real recognition engine, which is too large to bundle into the page itself. It's downloaded once (about 5–10MB), cached by your browser, and reused instantly on every visit after that — including for other images.
Is my image ever uploaded anywhere?
No — the OCR engine runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image is never sent to a server, including during the one-time engine download, which only fetches the recognition engine itself, not your image.
What image formats work?
JPG, PNG, and WebP. For best results, use a reasonably sharp, well-lit image where the text isn't tiny relative to the whole photo.
What format does the text download as?
A plain .txt file, or copy it straight to your clipboard.
Your files are never uploaded. Gotool.xyz runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your files are processed in memory and never touch a server — nothing to breach, nothing to clean up. Close the tab and it's like it never happened. The only thing we count is which tool ran (just the name, e.g. "merge") so we know what people find useful — never your file, its name, its size, or anything in it.
