Supports .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, .gif, .bmp

Background removal works by colour, not by recognising objects. It samples the corners, then clears everything of a similar colour that connects to the edge of the picture. That works well for a plain, evenly-lit backdrop — a product shot, a passport-style photo, a logo on white. It will do a poor job on a busy or detailed background, because it has no idea what your subject actually is. Areas enclosed inside your subject are left alone even if they match the background colour. "Strong" clears more but risks eating into the subject; try "Normal" first. Output is capped at 480px on its longest side, which is normal for GIF — they get very large very fast. Runs on a real video engine loaded into your browser (FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly) — about 30MB, downloaded once and cached for the rest of this visit. Nothing is uploaded; the work happens on your device.

How it works

  1. Upload the photo you want to animate.
  2. Choose from 24 effects, and optionally remove the background.
  3. Render and download your animated GIF.
  4. Background removal, when selected, happens automatically — no manual masking needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove the background from my photo?

Yes, background removal is an optional step before applying the effect.

How many effects are available?

24 different animated effects.

What format is the output?

A looping animated GIF.

How does the background removal work?

By color, not object recognition — it samples the corners and clears anything of a similar color connected to the edge. That works well on a plain, evenly-lit backdrop (a product shot, a passport-style photo) but struggles with busy or detailed backgrounds.

Will the GIF file be large?

Typically small enough to share directly — output is capped at 480px on its longest side, so size mainly depends on the effect and how many seconds you choose.

Your files are never uploaded. Gotool.xyz runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your files are processed in memory and never touch a server — nothing to breach, nothing to clean up. Close the tab and it's like it never happened. The only thing we count is which tool ran (just the name, e.g. "merge") so we know what people find useful — never your file, its name, its size, or anything in it.
